The Mary Bach Memorial Scholarship was established by the Austin Branch of the International Dyslexia Association to honor the life and legacy of Mary Bach, Ph.D., a fierce advocate, visionary leader, and beloved friend who dedicated herself fully to children with dyslexia and the professionals who support them.
As president of the Austin Chapter of the International Dyslexia Association, Mary didn’t just serve—she lived her mission. She was devoted to making the world a more equitable place for individuals with language-based learning differences.
Mary was a born educator, mentor, and friend. Her passionate advocacy for children with language and learning disorders fueled decades of service to the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), and especially to the Austin Branch. She served actively for over 25 years on the Executive Board, holding nearly every office and role imaginable. Under her leadership, the branch expanded outreach efforts to areas such as Corpus Christi and San Antonio. Mary was also recognized as an Orton Oak—an honor reserved for those who have served the organization with distinction for over 25 years.
In her memory, the Mary Bach Memorial Scholarship will provide $2,500 annually to support students or adults in need of dyslexia-related services, continuing the work Mary championed throughout her life.
